Jean-Pierre Rico, mayor of the town of Pérols near Montpellier, was the victim of an assault last Tuesday for wanting to enforce the pedestrian zone, informs us actu.fr

While chatting with citizens on the terrace of a café, the elected representative saw two scooters driving at very high speed pass in front of him.

The mayor then stood up and positioned two chairs across the street to prevent the two-wheelers from passing.

The situation quickly escalated when one of the drivers stopped to threaten Jean-Pierre Rico.

"Your race, I'm going to kill you," this man would have launched to the chosen one who will keep his calm throughout the altercation.

Obviously very recovered, the driver was then arrested by the municipal police, then entrusted to the national police and taken to the central police station.

Aged 26 and residing in Castelnau-le-Lez, this man was sentenced to one month suspended prison sentence for theft by the Toulouse court in 2019. He was referred to the Montpellier public prosecutor's office who decided to leave him free under judicial supervision pending judgment on August 4 for contempt and threat of death against the mayor of Pérols.

Jean-Pierre Rico filed a complaint.

The prefect of Hérault is associated with it.
