So far this summer, the Sea Rescue Society has issued 36 alarms, mainly in Runn, Siljan and Barken.

Throughout last year, they were alerted 35 times.

It is about cardiac arrest and drownings but also very many alarms that could have been avoided if the boat owners had been better prepared and equipped according to Sjöräddningen.

- The biggest mistakes you make are that you do not plan your route, you do not have enough fuel, you do not have charts in the boat or life jacket, says Erik Embretsen, station commander at Sjöräddningen in Siljan / Runn.

Increased interest in boats

Sjöräddningen has had a rescue station in Dalarna since 2017 and is thus relatively new in the area.

- It is clear that the alarms increase as boat owners become aware that we exist.

But I still experience that there are more incidents on the lakes that may be linked to increased boat interest, says Erik Embretsen

In the clip below, he gives his best tips for those who are going out on the lake.
