July 26, 2021 After the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the role of US troops in Iraq also changes.
American President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi are in fact ready to announce the end of the combat mission of American forces in the country, with a plan to reduce the US military presence. The media reported it a few hours after the meeting between the two leaders at the White House.
The agreement underlines how Iraq still needs assistance from the US on the source of military advice, training, logistical support, intelligence. There are currently 2,500 US troops in Iraq.
