The UK could soon be hit by a beer shortage if strike action is voted on at XPO Logistics Drinks, the company that delivers 40% of beer consumed in UK pubs, reports
The Independent
.
The union of delivery drivers of this company calls in particular for an increase in wages.
A vote must be organized this Wednesday.
A first "derisory" revaluation according to the union
The epidemic and the closing of bars have had a significant impact on this professional sector.
The salaries of XPO Logistics Drinks delivery drivers were frozen in 2020. They thus estimate a loss of income equivalent to 10,000 pounds, or 11,600 euros.
Particularly because of technical unemployment and the absence of overtime.
In 2021, a revaluation of 1.4% had already been offered to them but the union had considered the latter "derisory", in particular because of the inflation of 3.9% which affects the country.
This social movement comes at a time when demand is very high in the United Kingdom, especially since the reopening of pubs and the lifting of certain restrictions linked to Covid-19.
