The body of another Korean climber who went missing 22 years ago was found near the local base camp, while mountaineer Kim Hong-bin went missing at Broad Peak in the Himalayas.



According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and mountaineers, around mid-March, a foreign climber found the body of a Korean man, Heo Mo, near Broadpeak Base Camp, which is 4,950 meters above sea level.



In addition, a jacket and flag from the Yonsei University mountain club were also found along with the body.



Heo, who died at the age of 27, disappeared on July 29, 1999 while climbing Broad Peak as a member of the Yonsei University Mountaineering Club, giving up climbing at 7,300 meters above sea level and descending.



The other crew members who were climbing with Mr. Heo learned that Mr. Heo had disappeared the next day and started a search operation, but only found some of the belongings that appeared to belong to Mr. Heo.



Earlier in September 2009, the bodies of Min Joon-young and Park Jong-seong, who lost contact while climbing the North Face of Hiunchuli, in the Himalayas, were discovered in July 2019, 10 years after they were discovered, but it is very rare to find the bodies missing in the rugged environment of the Himalayas. work.



It is known that an acquaintance of Mr. Heo, who died, is planning to visit Broad Peak at the end of this month to recover the body.
