The Great Barrier Reef is a well-known nature reserve in Australia. It was included in the "World Heritage List" in 1981 and was Australia's first item on the list.

In recent years, due to fossil resource mining and related cargo port construction, agricultural pollution, climate change, etc., the ecological deterioration of the heritage site has caused problems. The professional consulting organization World Conservation Union (IUCN) has repeatedly recommended that the World Heritage Committee consider including the project in the " List of World Heritage in Danger.

Before this World Heritage Conference, the World Conservation Union reported that the Great Barrier Reef has experienced severe coral bleaching in the past five years, the ecosystem outlook has further deteriorated, and the outstanding universal value continues to be threatened. It is again recommended to be included in the "Endangered World Heritage List".

The World Heritage Committee passed a decision on the 23rd, requiring Australia to submit a report on the protection status and implementation of the Great Barrier Reef to the World Heritage Center in 2022 for consideration by the World Heritage Committee at the 45th World Heritage Conference.

Some World Heritage Committee member states and professional advisory bodies sternly refuted the remarks and reports that had previously unprovoked accusations of relevant countries and international organizations in their speeches, and appreciated China’s objective and fair position as the chair country.
