The Kremlin has announced that Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will soon visit Etorofu Island in the Northern Territories.

Putin last week mentioned joint economic activity in the northern territories in talks with Japan and instructed the prime minister to confirm the local situation as Russia has a proposal, and materialized the joint economic activity. Attention will be paid to the Russian side's appearance while the economy is not progressing.

The Russian government has announced that Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will visit the Far East and Siberia for four days starting on the 26th, including the northern territory of Iturup Island.

In addition to visiting clinics on the island, they are also planning to visit fishery processing facilities and have dialogues with employees.

When Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visits the Northern Territories, it will be the first Russian Prime Minister since the then Prime Minister Medvedev visited Etorofu Island in August 2019.

Regarding this visit, President Putin called on the Prime Minister to pay "special attention" to the situation in the Northern Territories at the Security Council held on the 23rd of this month, referring to joint economic activities in consultation with Japan. He instructed him to confirm the local situation, saying that he had a "completely unique and unprecedented proposal."

Although the content of the proposal has not been clarified, the Russian side is drawing attention as the joint economic activities between Japan and Russia are not materialized due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.
