Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi announced on Saturday, two days before his departure to Washington on an official visit, the arrest of all members of the "terrorist" network that "planned and executed" the suicide attack that took place in Baghdad on Monday, killing 30 people and wounding more than 50 others.

Al-Kazemi added in a tweet that those responsible for the attack claimed by ISIS “will be brought before the law and our people today,” referring to confessions being broadcast at an unspecified time, according to a security source.

On Monday evening, a suicide bombing rocked the Al-Wahilat market in Sadr City, one of the poorest and most crowded neighborhoods in Baghdad, which sparked anger and sadness among Iraqis, especially since the majority of the victims were children shopping in preparation for Eid al-Adha.

As a result, questions were raised about the ability of the security forces to curb similar attacks caused by ISIS.

This comes as US President Joe Biden receives Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi on July 26 in Washington, in light of talks that Iraq is conducting with the United States to set a timetable for the withdrawal of the international coalition forces.

There are still about 3,500 foreign soldiers on Iraqi soil, including 2,500 Americans, but the implementation of their withdrawal may take years.
