The Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education has identified 11 standards for institutional licensing (higher education institutions), accreditation of programs to enhance the effectiveness of institutional quality, and to provide assurance to students, their families and employers that licensed educational institutions and their programs meet quality levels, in line with modern international practice.

Finally, the Commission obtained unconditional international recognition for a period of five years, from the International Network of Quality Assurance Bodies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), as one of the 11 international accreditation bodies to obtain it, and the only one in the Arab countries.

The accreditation criteria that took into account e-learning included technical and vocational education, governance and management standard, quality assurance, educational programs, research and scientific activities, faculty and administrative staff, students, health, safety and environment, learning resource center, financial resources, management and budget, legal compliance and public disclosure, and community participation.

The Director of the Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yusuf Baniyas, stated that the International Network of Quality Assurance Bodies in Higher Education has implemented three procedures to obtain international recognition for the Commission, which are, first: evaluating the standards of the Commission for Academic Accreditation, policies and procedures, and ensuring independence and objectivity in decision-making, Financial transparency, decision-making powers, and maintaining records of licensed institutions and approved programs. Second: The review of the international team of experts representing the International Network of Quality Assurance Bodies in Higher Education of the standards applied by the Commission, and conducting interviews with representatives of universities in the country from administrative bodies, students, graduates, quality assurance managers, employees of the Ministry of Education, commissioners and staff of the Commission, and international quality assurance bodies, And the international partners of the Commission, and the local authorities in the country related to higher education. And third:The team’s visit (virtually in light of the Corona pandemic) to the departments of the Commission for Academic Accreditation to see their human, material and technical capabilities, and to review the databases used, academic records and financial reports for the Commission.

He stressed that the recognition obtained by the Commission reflects the global level of standards and procedures followed by the Commission, and its commitment to the best good practices in the academic accreditation processes of higher education institutions and their academic programs in the country.

He stated that the Commission is responsible for accrediting academic programs that include recognition of diploma, higher diploma, bachelor's degree, postgraduate diploma, master's degree and doctorate degree, pointing out that the degree of these certificates ranges between level 5-10, according to the UAE National Qualifications Framework (NQF UAE).

The Commission stressed the need for licensed higher education institutions to adhere to performance standards that cover all their activities, follow the principles of continuous improvement, and provide evidence of achieving the expected learning outcomes.
