The Turkish Defense Ministry said on Saturday that two of its soldiers were killed and two others wounded in an attack on their armored vehicle in northern Syria.

The ministry announced that the Turkish forces immediately launched retaliatory attacks, and stated in a statement on Twitter that "our punitive fire against terrorist sites continues."

The ministry did not specify where the attack occurred, but media outlets said it took place in the al-Bab area.

The statement confirmed that "terrorist sites" were identified and effectively bombed immediately after the attack.

"We did not and will not let the blood of our martyrs be in vain," he added.

It is noteworthy that the Turkish army launched Operation Euphrates Shield on August 24, 2016.

The Turkish army says that the operation has so far purged 2,055 square kilometers of land in northern Syria from the hands of terrorist elements.

The scope of the operation included areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate, including the cities of Jarablus, Al-Bab and Azaz.
