A large number of demonstrations are taking place around France on Saturday.

The target is the Macron government and the country's increasingly strict covid restrictions.

In some places, however, the protests have degenerated into violence.

A video from Paris shows how some of the protesters throw objects at the police, who respond by using tear gas.

Last Friday, French politicians clubbed a package of measures to get more French people vaccinated.

A controversial point in the program is about the increased use of the country's so-called "covid pass", which from 1 August will be required to visit cafes, bars, nightclubs, cinemas, large grocery stores, sports and cultural events, arcades and religious gathering places such as churches, writes Svenska Dagbladet.

The passports, which can be downloaded to the mobile phone, are a certificate that you have been vaccinated or that you have already had covid, and from the beginning the passports were intended to be used only for those who would travel between EU countries.
