Hungarian swordsman Aron Szilagyi, 31, on Saturday became the first fencer to win three Olympic titles in a row in Tokyo, a feat that had so far only been accomplished by one woman, Italian foilist Valentina Vezzali.

In the final, for the opening of the Olympic fencing events, Szilagyi, 4th in the world, beat the Italian Luigi Samele, 11th in the world, to win the third Olympic gold medal of his career after London-2012 and Rio -2016.
