This is the first time in its history that it has filed a complaint with the ECHR.
Moscow accuses Kiev of having violated the Council of Europe's Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms since the overthrow of power in 2014 and the arrival at the helm of pro-European leaders.

In Russia's eyes, the Ukrainian administration has increased the number of violations since Maidan's pro-European revolution, which it describes as a “
violent change of power
”.
The complaint refers to the death of civilians, as a result of the "
hostilities
" carried out by the Ukrainian armed forces, to the illegal imprisonment and ill-treatment inflicted on people, in the Donbass at war, but also during the revolution or even during the fire at the Odessa Trade Union House in May 2014. She also mentions the “
suppression of freedom of expression
and the persecution of journalists and politicians
”. The prosecution also complains of discrimination against the Russian-speaking population and of sanctions "
politically motivated.

It further notes that Ukraine is blocking the supply of fresh water to Crimea and also holds Kiev responsible for the destruction of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in July 2014, for failing to close its airspace over it. a war zone.
The international investigation showed that this airliner was destroyed by a BUK missile sent from Russia.
The trial in absentia is still ongoing in the Netherlands and the Dutch government has decided to bring Russia before the ECHR “
for its role in the destruction
” of flight MH17.
