A parallel forum will be held on the 23rd to discuss how to better play the role of Macau as a platform and promote China Jointly build the "Belt and Road" with Portuguese-speaking countries.
The Secretary of Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government Li Weinong said at the forum that despite the severe test of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries has shown a recovery trend.
From January to May this year, the total merchandise trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries was US$71.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of nearly 40%.
Li Weinong pointed out that the business cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries is one of Macao's development positioning, and it is also an important entry point for Macao to serve the country's needs and give full play to its own strengths.
In the future, Macau will continue to consolidate and leverage the advantages of the Sino-Portuguese platform, timely grasp the opportunities brought by the current international infrastructure cooperation and development, and while actively integrating into the overall national development and promoting the moderately diversified economic development of Macau, it will further deepen the Portuguese-speaking countries and the “belt”. Countries along the “One Road” will cooperate in the field of infrastructure construction to jointly promote the high-quality development of the “Belt and Road” construction.
Ren Hongbin, Assistant Minister of Commerce of China, suggested at the forum to encourage entrepreneurs from the Mainland and Macau to gather resources and complement each other's strengths, and support Macau to build a Sino-Portuguese platform.
Combining Macao’s advantages in specialty services such as finance, accounting, and construction, the network advantages of returned overseas Chinese and relatives, and the natural advantages of extensive connections with Portuguese-speaking countries, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between enterprises of the two places, and help enterprises of the two places to move forward in a group. Expand the markets of countries along the “Belt and Road” to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
