While a curfew was decreed in Barcelona and much of Catalonia last week, the health situation is finally improving in this region particularly affected by the Delta variant.

For several days, positive cases among young people and those under 30 have indeed drastically reduced.

A few weeks ago, the coronavirus epidemic was on the rise in Spain, in particular in Catalonia, the epicenter of this fifth wave of Covid-19 in the country due to the Delta variant.

To prevent the worsening of the health crisis, the government implemented a curfew last Friday from 1am to 6am.

A measure that seems to bear fruit since the number of contaminations is falling in the region and the situation is improving.

For the first time in a month, the epidemic is indeed receding.

In Catalonia, new cases are dropping significantly and the peak of this latest wave was passed in the middle of the week.

A finding confirmed by researcher Gerard Jimenez, who analyzes the region's Covid data on a daily basis.

"It has been a little over a week since positive cases in young people and under 30s have dropped drastically. Even if it is true that we have had very high incidence rates. of comparable hospitalized patients, we had a mortality ten times lower than that of other waves. And this, we can only attribute to the vaccine, "he says.

53% of Spaniards fully vaccinated

Everyone here wants to be vaccinated.

The authorities do not need to beat the recall since 53% of Spaniards received both doses, 8 points more than in France.

And even if the decline has not yet started in hospitals, which remain under pressure, this change in trend is undoubtedly good news for the south of France.

"People who live in the Pyrénées-Orientales can have hope. If, as it seems to be the case, it is confirmed that they are two weeks behind us, then France will follow the same dynamic", continues the searcher.

Despite this improving situation, the curfew and the ban on assembling for more than 10 people will be maintained in Catalonia until the end of the summer.

The mask, meanwhile, is not mandatory outdoors but everyone, or almost everyone, wears it anyway.
