New measures, new reports and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- 200 million Europeans vaccinated -

Two hundred million Europeans have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or more than half of the adult population, the European Commission announced on Thursday, which set a target of 70% of adults vaccinated this summer.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen added that the EU plans to donate "more than 200 million doses of vaccine to low and middle income countries before the end of the year", double the amount 'goal she had set herself so far.

- Delta variant: source of uncertainty for the euro zone -

The President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, expressed concern on Thursday about "growing uncertainty" linked to the rise in infection curves fueled by the Delta variant, which confirms the institution in its choice to stay the course an accommodating monetary policy.

- United Kingdom: activity threatened with paralysis -

The Indian government on Thursday rejected the findings of recent studies which put the death toll from Covid-19 in India at several million, well above the official figure of around 420,000.

- Vaccines: delays in delivery to Argentina -

Argentina has complained to Russia about delays in the delivery of doses of the anti-Covid Sputnik V vaccine, brandishing the threat of a breach of contract, the Argentine government announced on Thursday.

By December, Argentina had become the first Latin American country to approve the Sputnik vaccine and one of the first in the world.

Just over 17 million Argentines have received a first injection of the vaccine and less than six million are fully immune.

- Additional dose recommended in Iceland -

Icelanders vaccinated with Janssen are advised to receive an additional dose after mid-August to increase their resistance to the Delta variant, health officials said, facing an epidemic restart despite a high vaccination rate.

- More than 4.1 million dead -

The pandemic has killed at least 4,128,543 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to an assessment established by AFP from official sources on Wednesday in the middle of the day.

The United States is the most affected country with 610,125 deaths, followed by Brazil (547,016 dead), India (418,987), Mexico (237,207) and Peru (195,429).

The WHO estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that which is officially established.
