It's a good year when it comes to newborn big kings.

The birds in the so-called enclosure have given birth to about 35 young and the number of young for the free-breeding pairs has reached a total of 110.

For the first time ever, they have ringed chicks in four nests with four chicks in each, which is very special.

- Now we have about 65 pairs that breed freely outside.

They have succeeded exceptionally well this year, says Paul Wiberg, veteran of the Stork project.

Very high mortality

Once the young storks move, they move very far.

It happens that they fly all the way to southern Africa and then it takes three years before they return to their place of birth - Skåne.

- Of all the big kings we release every year, we can only expect 20 percent to reach adulthood.

The mortality rate is as high as 80 percent, says Paul Wiberg.

Every year, the Stork Project releases the young storks from their two enclosures in Fulltofta and Hemmestorp's mill in Veberöd.

And now on Saturday, it's time for such an event.

Paul Wiberg is one of the veterans behind the stork project.

Here he has picked out some props for Saturday's stork release outside Veberöd.
