The accident took place this Friday at noon at Lake Baggersee, a very busy place in Strasbourg.
Shortly after 3 p.m., the firefighters were called in because a 5-year-old girl was drowning, writes the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) of Bas-Rhin.
The small victim could have been taken out of the water by the rescuers on the spot and was in cardiopulmonary arrest when the firefighters arrived.
The latter helped resuscitate the child, who was transported to the intensive care unit at Hautepierre hospital.
She was then in serious condition.
