The staff of the French armies announced this Thursday evening the death of two executives of the EIGS.
Two senior officials of the terrorist organization Islamic State in the Great Sahara, shot dead overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, by the forces of Operation Barkhane, in northeastern Mali.

According to the staff of the French armies, the two men were shot south of Ménaka.
This is Rhissa al-Sahraoui, presented as a trusted man of the head of the Islamic State group in the Great Sahara.
He is said to have played an important role in the recruitment and training of armed combatants.

Inatès' attack on Nigerien forces
in December 2019, which claimed the lives of more than 80 Nigerien soldiers and caused a shock wave in the country.
Three days of national mourning had been decreed.
The other EIGS cadre that the French army says it has shot down is Abou Abderrahmane al-Sahraoui.
According to the staff, he played a role of moral authority since he dispensed justice and pronounced the most serious sentences such as death sentences.
He had been active in armed terrorist groups in Mali since 2013.
A little earlier in the day, in a press release, the French staff announced that it had carried out the operation on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in coordination with the American army, against an EIGS camp.
According to the spokesperson for the French armed forces, what happened last night is a continuation of Operation “Solstice” carried out in June with the Nigerien forces.
