The interlocutors also exchanged views on the prospects for promoting the political process, led and carried out by the Syrians themselves with the assistance of the UN, as spelled out in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

On July 4, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Vershinin and the President's Special Representative for the Syrian Settlement Alexander Lavrentyev met with Pedersen in Geneva.
