21 July 2021 The Rai supervisory commission ratified the election of Marinella Soldi as the new president of Rai, after being nominated by the Rai Board of Directors last week. Soldi obtained 29 votes, 2 more than the quorum necessary for the election. The votes against were 5, the white ballots 3. 

The two commissioners of the Brothers of Italy did not participate in the vote, confirming the climate of tension in the center-right which saw the exclusion of a reference of FdI in the new Rai Board of Directors.

Proposed by Prime Minister Mario Draghi and by the Minister of Economy, Daniele Franco, for the board of viale Mazzini: Marinella Soldi is the manager, currently president of the Vodafone Italia Foundation, president of the remuneration and nomination committee of Ferragamo and Independent Director of Nexi, Italmobiliare and Ariston Thermo.

Born in Figline Valdarno (Florence) and raised in London, Soldi holds a BA in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Masters in Business Administration from INSEAD, France. He started his career at McKinsey Company, working as a strategic consultant for three years between London and Italy. In 2000 he founded Soldi Coaching, a leadership coaching company with clients around the world, serving for nine years as a leadership coach in the technology and media sectors. She was CEO of Discovery Network Southern Europe (for the countries Italy, Spain, Portugal and France) for 10 years until October 2018. She held senior management roles for five years at MTV Networks Europe, SVP Strategic Development in London and GM, and for MTV Italia in Milan.
