12 people were killed as a flood engulfed a subway in China

Twelve people were killed after torrential rain swept through a subway in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou, while horrific images spread of commuters wrestling with water that engulfed them to their shoulders in a train car.

As dams and rivers overflowed with torrential rain across Henan Province, President Xi Jinping described the situation as "extremely dangerous", indicating a "delicate stage" in flood control measures, state media reported Wednesday morning.

About 200,000 people have been evacuated from Zhengzhou, local authorities said Wednesday, as the army leads rescue operations in the city of more than 10 million people, where days of torrential rain have inundated streets and subways.
