This Tuesday, July 20, a new government led by Prime Minister Ariel Henry will take the reins of the country.

The political impasse in which Haiti found itself since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse is in the process of being overcome.

But that doesn't mean a big change is to be expected in a country plagued by many crises.

Interview with Gotson Pierre, from the Haitian online agency AlterPresse.

RFI

: The composition of Ariel Henry's new government is now known.

Are there any surprises in this new team

?

Gotson Pierre:

 Not really.

The firm has been known since Monday evening.

It is made up of eighteen ministers whose list was published in

the Official Journal

.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry

retains the Social Affairs portfolio, while former Prime Minister Claude Joseph returns to his previous post in Foreign Affairs.

Three other former ministers remain in their posts and the former President of the Senate, Simon Dieuseul Desras, is joining the government which was formed only twelve days after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2021.

Civil society also wanted to work for the establishment of a transitional government.

How does she react to the announcement of this new government?

She especially wanted a Haitian solution to the crisis following an inter-Haitian dialogue. In this sense, a civil society commission initiated a political conference last weekend. It was therefore taken out of speed and today the economist Emmanuela Douyon of the collective "Nou Pap Domi", involved in this process, considers the establishment of the new government team as a bad joke. “

The gravediggers of the Republic are already ready to continue their work. You have to really hate Haiti to support this foul approach. Woe to him through whom the scandal comes.

"This is what she

writes on her Twitter account

, stressing" that

Haiti is a slipped land, hang in there

!

 She warns.

In their first reaction, several politicians do not hide their disappointment.

What are the priorities for this new team knowing that the political, security, food and health crisis remains relevant?

Can we expect an election to be called?

As for the priorities, we will wait for the installation of this new team to know them.

But the CORE Group, made up of most of the members of the diplomatic corps in Haiti, is pushing for the organization of elections, as soon as possible.

Currently, the date chosen is September 26, which is, given the current general and technical conditions, with a decried Electoral Council, half of the unregistered voters, very present violence and in the absence of political agreement, a real challenge.
