Interview María Jiménez: "The management of the pandemic? I don't know. These people don't explain themselves"
Music María Jiménez and her Way of the Cross: she was a single mother, her daughter died when she was 17, the bad life with Pepe Sancho and the two cancers
Last May, she was excited to collect the Medal of Andalusia.
At last came this recognition -
"it is difficult for them to give medals, what they have taken," he
told LOC-.
It was not the culmination of his career, nothing further from it.
María Jiménez is the protagonist of the first chapter of the new season of
Lazos de Sangre,
which is broadcast tonight by TVE, in which images of a lifetime dedicated to music will be offered, but also
that of a woman who has suffered and has known how to get up. .
The program will feature the presence on the set of her sister Isabel, as well as testimonies from her son Alejandro and other people close to the artist, who yesterday commented that she is not going to watch the program because
"I don't like to see myself."
María Jiménez Gallego was born in Seville, in the Triana neighborhood, on February 3, 1950. While still a child, she began working in a workshop, until she decided to go to Barcelona to look for a future.
He began cleaning, a job that alternated with small performances
in a nightclub in Barcelona, after a local businessman offered him that opportunity.
Later he moved to Madrid, where he began a career full of successes since he released that
It Finished
(1978) that today
is almost as fashionable as at that time.
At the age of seventeen, she became pregnant and had her daughter Rocío, who was born in 1968. She never revealed the father's name, a man who did not want to know anything about either of them,
forcing her to raise her daughter alone.
She was a beautiful, sexy woman, full of strength and absolutely sincere.
The attractiveness of the Sevillian gave rise to
the also handsome Pepe Sancho falling at her feet.
They were married in the church of Santa Ana, in Triana, in 1980, for the first time.
Because later two more would arrive.
María felt a crush when she met Pepe, who at that time had fame - and a stream of admirers - throughout the country for
his role as Student in the series Curro Jiménez.

Five years after that first wedding, and because of a fatal traffic accident,
his daughter Rocío died at just sixteen years old
, whom he prefers not to speak of but remembers every day and at all times, how could it be otherwise .
From her marriage to Pepe Sancho her son Alejandro was born, who is now watching over her at all times and very often goes to Chiclana to spend time with his mother.
María moved to this town in Cádiz,
where she says she has found peace and tranquility
.
It is also Alejandro who is in charge of the store on his website, in which he has launched t-shirts, mugs and other items with the face of María Jiménez.
And there she also enjoys her grandchildren when they visit her.
On stage it was like a hurricane.
It was the time of the Transition and was overflowing with energy.
She moved her skirt and raised it to the maximum no matter where the gazes of the public were nailed, she disheveled her hair with force, she showed her legs, she
cried out with her lyrics and her movements for absolute freedom.
A revolution.
She, in love to the core of Pepe Sancho, suffered.
And she suffered because her husband did not give her a good life.
Although he did give Rocío his surnames without hesitation.
But Pepe did come to admit that he had cheated on her,
even though he is said to be a jealous and possessive person.
Although they were separated and Rocío's death was a great blow for both of them, Pepe and María had their son Alejandro in common, and little by little they got closer.
Her second wedding arrived, celebrated in Costa Rica.
And later they would repeat in Nepal.
All this time it was a period of personal and professional ups and downs, depressions, accusations of mistreatment, appearances on television sets ... In spite of this, María, so free and always with the truth ahead,
was not capable to escape the situation.
Probably because she was still in love with her husband.
Until the opportunity to record with La Cabra Mecánica arrived. A kind of spark with which the Sevillian opened her eyes, came out of isolation and began to leave behind the almost zero confidence she felt in herself. He started living again, especially when he recorded that album singing Sabina.
It was the definitive takeoff to fly solo
and become as fashionable as the new artists of the moment.
It does not matter that you are in a wheelchair to put on a concert and go on a stage tour. Or to support the most Andalusian fashion. Days before the pandemic, on her birthday, the designer Aurora Gaviño, a close friend of hers, paid tribute to her through her new collection of flamenco dresses, during her presentation at SIMOF. A moment that María did not want to miss and that
even included the peacock feathers
that are almost a hallmark of Jiménez, in addition to the cake, the ovation of the public and the subsequent party organized in his honor.
People love Maria.
And she loves people.
He fondly greets everyone who approaches him, always with his safe and strong voice, the same with which he has always said openly everything he thought.
"I remember things in my life without problem because I never lie," he
has said on occasions.
And that sincerity is appreciated, because he does not lie either in person or on social media.
But life hit her again when she was diagnosed with cancer, when she spent almost three months in a hospital in Seville and when many already thought she was dead.
Maria resurfaced, overcame the disease and returned to the charge.
And in it he is, with the same desire as always to get on stage, especially after having released, in the midst of a pandemic, his album
Life in my own way,
presented last October 2020. A title from which a conclusion can be drawn.
That now she is living as she wants.
