Barnarpasjön is described by the county administrative board as one of the county's most eutrophied lakes.

Dredging has previously been carried out to try to improve the conditions in the lake, and at the end of 2017, the Land and Environmental Court gave the municipality of Jönköping the go-ahead to continue the dredging work.

But now this summer, the situation is worse than in a long time according to the local resident.

- We have lived here for 16 years and I have never seen the lake as green as now, says Per Jahnberg.

His neighbor Fredrik Johansson agrees.

He has lived by Barnarpasjön for 50 years and he describes the situation as worse than ever.

- You need to do something about it, says Fredrik Johansson when he and Per Jahnberg take SVT's photographer out with a boat to show what it looks like around the lake.

So far, the fish are alive

So far, there is no information on fish deaths in the lake, which can happen in eutrophied lakes such as Barnarpasjön.

- It is easy to destroy a lake but not as easy to fix it then, says Måns Lindell, freshwater ecologist at the County Administrative Board in Jönköping County who has close contact with Jönköping Municipality's environmental protection department.

In the clip above, you can follow out into the boat with Per Jahnberg and Fredrik Johansson and see the stinking and bright green lake.
