In Ulan-Ude, the Investigative Committee opened criminal cases against a 39-year-old woman who is suspected of torturing her adopted children.

The injured girls, eight and six, were raised in a foster home.

According to local media reports, they were taken into care with another sister by their uncle after his sister was deprived of parental rights four years ago.

The family also has two of its own children, already adults.

“The Investigation Department for the Oktyabrsky District of Ulan-Ude of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Republic of Buryatia has initiated criminal cases against a 39-year-old woman suspected of committing crimes under paragraph“ g ”of Part 2 of Art.

117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (torture of a knowingly minor who is in a helpless state, as well as in material or other dependence on the perpetrator) and Part 1 of Art.

115 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of minor harm to health), ”the press service of the department reported.

"As a punishment for the lost thermometer"

“According to the investigation, on July 13, 2021, an eight-year-old girl was admitted to a hospital in the city of Ulan-Ude with a finger injury caused by a sharp object ... First, she explained that she had received a finger injury while walking, when she fell on a scythe.

However, during the initial verification of this report, the police found out that the girl was injured by the wife of her guardian, as punishment for the lost thermometer, the UK reports.

- The woman could not find a thermometer at home and decided that the children had lost it.

She stabbed the girl's hand with a knife, causing a cut wound and a fracture of the nail phalanx of the finger.

The girl was taken to the hospital, where the guardians reported that she was injured in the street.

But in the ward, the child told other patients that the trauma was caused by the adoptive mother, who tried to chop off her fingers with a kitchen knife.

“The first time it didn't work out, the second time it didn't work out, the third time I waved and hit two fingers.

She punished her strictly not to say that it was her mother, that she cut off her, cut off her fingers.

I told her to tell her that you did it on the street, got injured.

She is afraid to go home, says, “Every time I pray to God that she doesn’t beat me,” a roommate told the media.

Later, the Investigative Committee clarified that all of the girl's fingers were in place.

“Many media outlets published that two of her fingers were allegedly chopped off or cut off, but this is not true.

The girl was admitted to the hospital with a cut wound in the nail phalanx of the third finger, ”said Dmitry Stolyarov, press secretary of the IC, to RT.

Investigative actions are in progress

As noted in the department, during the examination, the doctor noticed numerous bruises and abrasions on the child's arms and legs.

The girl was emaciated (her weight was only 16 kg), scared and withdrawn.

Her younger, six-year-old sister was diagnosed with burns on her palms.

The investigation believes that this is the result of punishments with a lighter "for petty duty."

Now the question of placing the suspect in custody is being decided.

“In the criminal case, investigative actions are being carried out aimed at establishing a complete picture of the crimes and collecting the necessary evidence base,” the press service of the Investigative Committee noted.

The children are now in a social rehabilitation center.

After discharge, the eldest of the sisters will also be transferred there.

Also, the issue of separating materials in relation to officials of the guardianship and guardianship authorities is being resolved, since they did not take timely measures to protect minors transferred to a foster family.

Not attracted attention

According to media reports, the husband and wife, suspected of child abuse, moved to Ulan-Ude from the Tunkinsky District.

According to neighbors, it was a completely ordinary family that did not attract attention in any way.

The press secretary of the Ministry of Social Protection of Buryatia, Maria Ivaylovskaya, said that an unscheduled check on this incident would be organized, "based on its results, the question of the further life of children will be decided."

“The guardianship authorities could only deprive the mother of her rights, but this did not make it easier for the children,” said Elina Zhgutova, head of the Ivan-Chai social movement.

According to the human rights activist, raising foster children is a vocation that not everyone has.

“Our children are taken from their families and transferred to foster care according to the order.

The motivation for accepting other people's children is different: it is payments, and benefits, and the exploitation of child labor ... If this is not love, not a true vocation, then such tragedies are not far away, ”she added.

Representatives of the guardianship of Ulan-Ude did not comment on the situation to RT.
