July 19, 2021 The theme seems already contained in the title where there is again the suggestion of the "maternal" story, again at the Venice Film Festival.

'Madres paralelas' is the new film by Pedro Almodóvar and will open the 78th edition of the kermesse at the Lido from 1 to 11 September 2021. The beautiful "All about my mother" of 1999 has never been spiritually distant, in the middle of the others, the Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2019 and last year 'The human voice', an interesting documentary in the original language.

In the cast the inevitable Penélope Cruz, together with Milena Smit, Israel Elejalde, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, and with the participation of Julieta Serrano and Rossy de Palma.

Almodovar owes a lot to the Mostra della laguna and many are already waiting to see him again: "I was born as a director in Venice in 1983, declared Pedro Almodóvar, in the Mezzogiorno Mezzanotte section. Thirty-eight years later I am called to inaugurate the exhibition. joy, honor and how much this represents for me without falling into complacency. I am very grateful to the festival for this recognition and I hope to live up to it ".

The director of the Festival, Alberto Barbera, declares: "I am grateful to Pedro Almodóvar for offering us the privilege of opening the cinema exhibition with his new film, an intense and sensitive portrait of two women who measure themselves with the themes of maternity from unpredictable implications, of female solidarity, of a sexuality lived in full freedom and without hypocrisy, against the background of a reflection on the unavoidable need for truth, to be pursued without hesitation. A very welcome return to Venice in competition for our Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2019, many years after the success of women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, which marked her definitive affirmation in the international arena ".

Madres paralelas is produced by El Deseo and distributed in Italy by Warner bros. Pictures. It will be screened on Wednesday 1 September 2021 in the great hall of the Palazzo del Cinema (Lido di Venezia), on the opening night. The news has just arrived and we are already looking forward to seeing it.
