A veterinarian who dissected a dead monkey in China was later reported to have died of the virus.

According to a report by the Chinese state-run Global Times, a veterinarian in his 50s working at a research institute in Beijing dissected two monkeys that died in March and showed symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, and died at the end of May after being treated at the hospital.

Authorities' investigation revealed that the deceased veterinarian was infected with the 'monkey B virus'.

'Monkey B virus' is transmitted through bites or scratches from monkeys or through contact with cells or secretions of infected monkeys.

The Global Times reported that the deceased veterinarian was the first confirmed human case of monkey B virus infection in China.
