The Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office demanded that the police toughen up the charges brought against Valeria Bashkirova, who hit three children on July 16 at a pedestrian crossing in the south-west of Moscow.

Initially, the woman was charged under Part 3 of Art.

264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of traffic rules by a person driving a car, resulting in the death of a person by negligence”).

Under this article, she faces up to five years in prison.

The day before, the court chose house arrest as a preventive measure.

The prosecutor's office demands to immediately re-qualify the charge to Part 5 of Art.

264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation by a driver of traffic rules, which caused the death of two or more persons by negligence) - up to seven years in prison, and also go to court to have the accused taken into custody.

“It was established that on July 16, 2021, an 18-year-old girl, driving a Mazda 3, moving along the street.

Aviators, in violation of the Traffic Rules of the Russian Federation, did not give way to pedestrians crossing the carriageway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing, as a result of which they hit young children, ”the department said.

“Subsequently, two children died in the hospital,” the prosecutor's office stressed.

"A nine-month-old girl is being provided with the necessary medical care."

At the same time, the department noted: "There are currently no legal grounds for changing the jurisdiction of a criminal case and removing it from the police."

As previously reported in the traffic police, the tragedy occurred on Friday at 12:58 pm near the house number 5 on Aviatorov Street.

The woman hit three children who, accompanied by two adults, were crossing the carriageway along an unregulated pedestrian crossing.

It was the children who took the brunt of the collision.

A helicopter of the Emergency Medical Center and several ambulance squads were taken from the scene of the accident.

On the night of July 17, it became known that a five-year-old boy had died in the hospital, having received a fracture of the base of the skull and fell into a coma.

In the evening of the same day, a three-year-old boy died in a medical facility, having received a closed craniocerebral injury in an accident, a concussion and a fracture of the leg.

According to the traffic police, at the time of the accident, the older children were moving on a balance bike and scooter, and the youngest child was in a stroller.

The police said that the girl who was driving the Mazda received a driver's license in 2020, she had no traffic violations, and the car itself did not belong to her.

Bashkirova underwent a medical examination procedure.

As reported in the Telegram channel of the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate, the state of alcoholic intoxication has not been established.

After the emergency, the Department of Transport of Moscow urged drivers to be careful while driving: “Now the children are on vacation.

State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein had previously demanded to toughen the measure of restraint for Bashkirova.
