Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family toured yesterday evening, Saturday, the crowded Al-Midan neighborhood in the heart of the capital, Damascus, hours after

he was sworn in for a new term of office, extending for the next seven years.

Observers of the Syrian affairs said that Assad’s presence with his wife, Asmaa and their children, in the square crowded with citizens, is a message to those who doubt the difficult security situation in Damascus, and it contains messages to Assad’s opponents and enemies that he is not isolated from his people.

Pictures documented the moment the Syrian president and his family arrived in the Al-Midan neighborhood, and the special advisor to the Syrian presidency, Buthaina Shaaban, published a video clip and commented: "Mr. President Bashar Al-Assad is in the Damascus neighborhood of Al-Midan among his people, his family and his lovers."

Al-Assad arrived in a Syrian-made car at the square crowded with people, where he ate "shawarma" sandwiches, in preparation for the blessed Eid al-Adha, amid people rushing to meet him and shake hands with him.

The Syrian president took the oath of office for a new term, yesterday, Saturday, in front of members of the People's Assembly, where he called on the deceived citizens to return to the homeland as a "refuge and incubator", describing the Syrian people as "big in heart and forgiving."

Al-Assad stressed that the next stage "will witness the modernization of laws, the fight against corruption, and the detection of the corrupt, and there is no leniency in that," revealing that work is underway to build about 3000 new factories, increase production, and attract investments.
