Hiking from Umeå to Stockholm for women in South Sudan

"Mile by mile" is the name of the initiative that Elina Bengtsson and Ebba Westergren started at the beginning of the summer.

To date, over 180 sponsors have helped them raise the 204,000 kronor needed for the water wells.

- We want to draw attention to women in South Sudan who have to walk long distances to fetch water, on roads they are also at risk of abuse.

For every mile we walk, we receive 1884 kronor, says Elina Bengtsson.

"Passed Stockholm"

The goal was to walk the 70 miles from Umeå to Stockholm, but when SVT Västerbotten contacted them, they had already passed the capital.

- We are in Södertälje soon and we end today at 14.00.

The last time I checked, we were only SEK 15,000 from our money goal, so I think we will be able to do it, says Elina Bengtsson.
