British Health Minister

Sajid Javid

announced on Saturday that he had tested positive for Covid-19, two days before the lifting of almost all restrictions in England, a lack of focus that worries due to the outbreak of cases related to the

Delta variant.

"I felt a bit upset last night

so I had an antigen test this morning and it came back positive. I am now in isolation at home with my family until I get a PCR test result," Sajid Javid explained in a video posted on

Twitter.

Javid is fully vaccinated and says his symptoms are "very mild."

The minister had an "extensive" meeting on Friday with Prime Minister

Boris Johnson,

according to the

Sunday Times.

Johnson came close to dying

from Covid-19 last year.

His office declined to comment on whether the prime minister or other members of his cabinet should remain isolated because of the meeting.

Javid had spoken, without a mask, in the

House of Commons

on Monday afternoon to confirm the lifting of most of the remaining coronavirus-related restrictions in England from July 19, including the mandatory use of the mask and social distancing.

The following day he returned to the

lower house of Parliament

to answer the questions of the deputies.

The government justifies this next stage thanks to the success of a vaccination campaign that began in December, which allowed more than two-thirds of adults to be fully vaccinated and "weakened" the link between illness, hospitalization and death, allowing the public health system to do facing the situation.

However, the number of infections continues to increase, due to the strong contagiousness of the Delta variant, which is ultra-majority in the

United Kingdom.

The country registered

50,000 daily cases on Friday,

something never seen since January.
