The United States and Germany have not voiced specific steps to support Ukraine, said Sergei Nikiforov, spokesman for Vladimir Zelensky, commenting on the outcome of the meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Joe Biden.

Nikiforov said that the words of the leaders of both countries about their adherence to the territorial integrity of Ukraine and statements about the need to preserve its status as a gas transit country are not supported by anything.

“We did not hear the most interesting thing: how exactly the parties will try to ensure this.

We did not hear the specifics demanded by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, ”said the press secretary of the Ukrainian president during the briefing.

At the same time, according to him, Zelensky still hopes that “the most powerful country in the world and the most powerful country in Europe will remain true to their declarations, their obligations and principles.

And they will not exchange them for some short-term commercial interests. "

Recall that the meeting between Joe Biden and Angela Merkel took place in Washington on July 15.

Before her visit to the United States, the German Chancellor met with the Ukrainian president, during negotiations with whom a number of Kiev's positions were discussed.

In particular, they talked about the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, as well as the Ukrainian requirements for guarantees from the EU on energy security and the inclusion of the implementation of Nord Stream 2 in the Normandy Four agenda.

As a result, according to the adviser to the Kiev delegation in the trilateral contact group Alexei Arestovich, the visit of the Ukrainian president to Berlin "did not bring anything" because Merkel and Zelensky "did not find a common language on a whole range of issues, starting with the fate of Nord Stream 2" and ending with a specific implementation of the Steinmeier formula ”.

According to experts, the lack of specifics in Washington's statements demonstrates the West's unwillingness to really participate in resolving Ukrainian problems.

“With all the talk of the West about the need to carry out reforms in Ukraine, raise the economy, fight oligarchs and corruption, it is not really interested in helping Ukraine in the problem of gas transportation and improving the lives of ordinary Ukrainians.

After all, the standard of living of the population on the verge of poverty and survival, which is now maintained in the country, provides Western countries with the most favorable socio-political situation, "Vladimir Zharikhin, deputy director of the Institute of CIS Countries, said in a conversation with RT.

In turn, political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev believes that Ukrainian politicians expected more harsh steps from the West towards Russia, hoping to force it to support Ukraine by concluding new contracts for the transportation of gas.

“At the same time, the Kiev authorities hoped that European countries would provide him with compensation for the fact that they would receive gas via Nord Stream 2.

However, Germany is not going to either abandon this project, or allocate compensation funds to Ukraine.

Therefore, Merkel and Biden refrained from specifics when signing the Washington Declaration, "the expert explained in an interview with RT.

For billions of dollars

Despite the fact that neither the German Chancellor nor the US leader made any special statements on issues related to Ukraine, Oleksiy Arestovich, advisor to the Kiev delegation in the trilateral contact group, said in an interview with the Ukrainian Internet television UkrLife that Kiev has the right to ignore any attempts by international partners to put pressure on him.

Moreover, if the West continues to insist on the implementation of the Steinmeier formula, then Kiev will turn to China for support.

“So they will call and say: you are bad, implement the Steinmeier formula.

We say: but we will not.

So, what is next?

And we are leaving for China, ”Arestovich said.

In his opinion, neither the United States nor Germany has mechanisms to force Ukraine to implement the agreements.

At the same time, according to Arestovich, the country will begin to withdraw from the "Normandy format".

"If it comes to a very tough conversation with Ukraine, then anything can happen with the Minsk agreements on our part ... Ukraine will not come out (from them. -

), but we can start asking deeper questions about the content of their implementation", - said the adviser.

However, if the West gives "very serious guarantees", then Kiev, possibly, will fulfill the Minsk agreements, Arestovich admitted.

According to him, such an incentive could be "a loan of ten billion dollars or direct assistance", as well as "serious investment in security and the economy" or the status of the main US ally outside NATO.

Otherwise, Ukraine will turn to the East.

“If the United States does not help us to cope with Russia, then China will help.

The Chinese, unlike the States, do not hesitate to give guarantees and security, and investments instantly, instantly and without any fools, ”Arestovich expressed confidence.

He called the alleged "bad" relations between Moscow and Beijing as grounds for such a statement.

"They don't give extra money"

According to Volodymyr Zharikhin, such statements by Ukrainian politicians are similar to “child threats”.

In addition, in China itself, any relationship with foreign partners is considered exclusively from an economic point of view, the expert emphasized.

“Of course, Ukraine can turn towards China in the economic part.

But Beijing does not give extra money and does not provide other countries with the scanty financial assistance that Western countries provide to Ukraine.

He only buys what can make a profit, invests in the infrastructure he needs, ”said the interlocutor of RT.

In addition, analysts say, Ukraine should become an important part of China's life in order to try to win it over to its side.

“This is childish blackmail, because in order for China to somehow stand between Ukraine and Russia, it is necessary for Kiev to become an important component of Beijing's life.

And this is not, and is not foreseen, ”Andrey Suzdaltsev assessed the Ukrainian claims.
