The number of victims linked to the bad weather hitting Germany continues to increase.

The Cologne community of municipalities tweeted that "several people are missing" after a major landslide

in the municipality of Erftstadt-Blessem this Friday morning.

"The houses were largely washed away and some collapsed", following the violent floods, announced the local authorities indicating that several deaths were "confirmed".

"Rescue is often not possible"

Images of the disaster area released by authorities showed a large crater into which masses of earth, brown water and debris were pouring out.

“Emergency calls are coming from homes, but help is often not possible,” the authorities further explained about this area located less than 40 kilometers from Cologne.

This event occurs in the region of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most affected by the deadly weather, along with neighboring Rhineland-Palatinate.

The number of dead people is currently at least 81 by the various authorities and the emergency services continue to search for many missing people.
