July 15, 2021 Whirlpool workers at the Via Argine plant in Naples have cleared the departure access area of Capodichino airport. A protest that lasted for about half an hour slowing down the boarding operations for travelers. The hundred or so blue overalls then moved to the square of the international airport where they continue to chant choirs and shout slogans, displaying banners and flags with the request to be able to work.

Yesterday, the company confirmed the start of the dismissal procedures for all the workers of the Neapolitan plant during the table at the Ministry of Economic Development. Yesterday afternoon, the workers carried out a garrison near the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Caserta), on the occasion of the visit of the Prime Minister Mario Draghi and the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia. A meeting with the premier and the provincial secretaries of Fiom, Fim and Uilm followed.

Mayor de Magistris: "Deceived and politically abandoned workers"

"I feel a lot of bitterness and even anger because these workers have been deceived and politically abandoned." This was stated by the mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris, commenting on the Whirlpool dispute on the day the dismissal procedures for the workers of the plant in via Argine begin, who this morning are holding a protest at Capodichino airport.

"Governments have made promises, commitments, ministers and parliamentarians have polished the electoral campaign by going among these workers, but then - added de Magistris who spoke to Radio Crc - the Government, despite being strong in numbers and in the authority of some members. start with the Prime Minister, so far he has given in to the multinational that had signed an agreement and then decided to close Naples and invest elsewhere. Faced with this, an authoritative government, of any political color, sits down at the table and says to the multinational that must respect the agreement otherwise there will be a series of consequences. Already Conte said a few months ago that he would solve it, Conte fell and nothing has been resolved. Now let's see if with Draghi, who has an even stronger majority than Conte,it will come to something concrete. I hope so and I want to believe the Prime Minister, but now let's move from words to deeds ".

Fim-Cisl: "Where are the regional councilors?"

"We will not give up and we will not leave the workers of Whirlpool alone." Thus the regional and citizen secretaries of Fim Cisl Raffaele Apetino and Biagio Trapani. "We will not end our protest to defend the work and workers of Whirlpool in Naples until there is a positive solution to the dispute that has been going on for over 26 months", continue the two members of the CISL. "Where are the elected majority and opposition regional councilors? - Apetino and Trapani affirm again - This is the time to stand by the workers of via Argine and all the workers who at this moment are risking losing their jobs" .

Uil Campania: "There is a risk of very high tension"

"These are very delicate hours". So Giovanni Sgambati, general secretary of Uil Campania, commenting on the protest of the workers of the Whirlpool plant in Naples, this morning at Capodichino airport, on the day the company started the dismissal procedure. "It is clear that, if the decision on the dismissal procedure is not suspended, the tension in the city of Naples risks being very high", adds Sgambati.
