The new Gran Vía Metro station

will reopen its doors tomorrow, Friday

, at 06:00, after having been

closed for more than 1,000 days

.

Almost three years in which it has undergone a radical change in its architecture.

Now it sports a futuristic appearance that is not only reflected in the cladding, but also in the small details that the user will find in its path, such as the latest generation access lathes.

With an

investment of 10.7 million euros

, it is expected that 66,000 passengers will pass through this new stop daily. Whoever does it will find not only a more

open and comfortable space

, but also a vertical axis with connections between its three new levels. Although what stands out the most is the expansion of the main lobby, which

goes from 900 to 2,000 square meters

, and the connection with the RENFE de Sol Cercanías.

"I know of the enthusiasm with which the residents have waited for the reopening of this stop and now what remains is to

celebrate that today we have one more point

in Metro transport, which is also a treasure of our urban area," said the President of the Community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, at the reopening of the new Gran Vía. And she has been proud that it is "the first 4.0 station in Spain, fully accessible, since it will have

four elevators and 13 escalators

", has cataloged this space as "a unique leading station in Europe".

Rebuilt temple

The remodeling work can already be seen from the outside.

A

replica of the temple built by the architect Antonio Palacios

has been installed on the surface

.

The ceramic mural in which the original temple is exhibited has also been rebuilt in the lobby.

Inside, the new Gran Vía will have 14 machines with a touch screen to facilitate the determination of the route for people with disabilities and with

17 new equipment to control

passenger

access

, which is not a few.

This station is one of the 25 most used in the metropolitan network, with an

annual traffic of 16 million pedestrians

. 44,000 users circulated through it daily, although thanks to the new connection established with Cercanías Renfe and the Metro de Sol the forecast is that the number of users will increase by 22,000 more passengers every day.

"It was one of the first eight stations on the first line of Madrid, inaugurated in 1919.

But it was also one of the most used.

Before its closure, 16 million travelers passed through here a year. This is the population of Andalusia and Catalonia together , and surpasses the population of countries such as Belgium, Portugal or Greece, to give some examples, "Ayuso slipped, ending up wishing to see this space soon as in 2018,

" full of vitality and life. "
