In twelve hours, 80 liters of rain per square meter fell in the Hof region.

And in Düsseldorf, 25,000 sandbags were used at roadside to stabilize the ditches.

- The water level in the river Düsseldorf was 2.65 meters higher than normal.

That's a lot, says Emma Härenstam.

At least 20 people have lost their lives and many are missing after several houses collapsed in connection with the downpour in western Germany.

In several places, the floodwaters are so wild that the rescue forces do not dare to use their boats when looking for distressed accommodation.

This weekend there is a risk that it will reach more countries in southern Europe.
