Meghan Markle will create and produce for Netflix an animated series aimed at pushing young girls to emancipate themselves, inspired by female characters who have made history, the foundation she runs with Prince Harry announced on Wednesday.

"Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl seeks to discover herself at the same time as she tries to meet the challenges of everyday life," said in a statement the Duchess of Sussex, who recently gave birth to a baby girl.

Inspired by several historical women, the heroine will gradually learn to know her strengths and emancipate herself.

No date has been communicated as to the release of the series, which could be called "Pearl".

Filmmaker David Furnish, husband of Elton John, is one of the co-producers.

Based in California, Harry and Meghan, who have retired from the British royal family, manage the Archewell Foundation, both a charity and an audiovisual production company that has signed lucrative partnerships with the platforms Netflix and Spotify.
