The Federal Agency for Employment in Germany announced that nearly two-thirds of all Syrians working in Germany depend wholly or partly on unemployment benefits known as "Hearts Fair".

A statistic for the agency published yesterday showed that the proportion of government support recipients among Syrian immigrants reached 65% last March, which is far higher than the rates of the rest of the refugees from major countries of origin, such as Somalia or Afghanistan.

According to the statistics, 37.1 percent of Somalis of working age received "Hearts Fair" benefits last March.

Among Afghans, the percentage was 43.7%.

The Federal Employment Agency's statistics are based on data from the Central Aliens Registry, where asylum seekers are registered as well as all foreigners residing in Germany.

According to the data, the percentage of beneficiaries of government support among Syrians of working age decreased compared to the same month last year, when their percentage at that time was about 70%.

An expert on internal affairs in the parliamentary bloc of the Christian Alliance, Matthias Middelberg, said: "The figures issued by the Federal Employment Agency show that we still have a lot ahead in the field of integration," noting that the high percentage of Syrian beneficiaries of government support is "remarkable in light of the high chances of obtaining protection." (among Syrians) in Germany, and thus provides a good possibility of staying there compared to other nationalities.”

Middleberg said the belief that providing immigrants with a safer residence status would speed up the integration process did not appear to be certain here. “Instead of doing what the Greens want by offering incentives to attract immigrants with limited or unqualified qualifications, we have to focus,” he said. Eligible people should protect those already residing here and intensify our efforts to integrate into the labor market.”

According to data from the Federal Employment Agency, 27.4% of Syrians of working age, 46.8% of all foreigners, and 63.1% of Germans were engaged in the labor market last April.

"In general, it can be said that the unemployment rate among refugees is always very high in the first years of residence," said Banu Potvara, a member of the Advisory Board for Integration and Migration.

Butfar mentioned that the small percentage of workers among Syrian refugees compared to other nationalities may be related to this, as well as the high percentage of women in this group, noting that many Syrian women joined their families in the framework of family unification, and therefore did not spend a long time in Germany yet, adding They are often unavailable to the labor market because they take care of young children, as well as for cultural reasons.
