"Åke på Myren", as the founder of the car cemetery was called, passed away in 2000 and left behind his car wreck on the old road at Kyrke Mosse outside Ryd in Tingsryd municipality.

Over the years, his car scrap has become one of Kronoberg's most popular places to visit, where many people come to photograph his old cars.

Hobby photographer and author Kerstin Bengtsson has been documenting the old cars with her camera for 40 years, and three years ago she released a book about the place.

- Åke had no idea that this was beautiful in any way.

He never understood why I was here and photographed all the time.

He always said to me, “Could it be something?

Just a pile of scrap metal, ”she says.

This photo is one of very few that have been on Åke from his time at the car scrap yard, according to Kerstin Bengtsson who also took the picture.

Protected by the municipality

The land on which Åke's old cars stand is protected by the municipality of Tingsryd and will be so for the next 30 years.

The idea is that nature should have taken over the cars then.

- If you look at the cars, you see that it changes every time you visit the place.

They will disappear quite quickly in the ground, says Kerstin Bengtsson.
