By only 20 votes to 14, with 13 abstentions, the Human Rights Council therefore adopted the resolution on Ethiopia bitterly negotiated by Slovenia.

But no African country represented voted in favor.

And Gabon, Malawi, Senegal and Sudan abstained.

By systematically abstaining or by voting in favor of watering down the text during the session, the “African bloc” therefore adopted Ethiopia's arguments to consider that this resolution did not help matters on the ground.

This did not prevent the 17 amendments presented by Eritrea, but also by China and Venezuela, from all being rejected, despite the support of some countries on the continent, including Cameroon, which served as spokesperson. .

Moreover, it was the Cameroonian ambassador, on behalf of the African group, who put forward the point of view of the continent.

In particular, he stressed the importance of awaiting the ongoing investigations of the UN and

human rights commissions

, whose joint conclusions are due in August.

He considered that the Council resolution was not “

constructive

 ”.
