The 2020 harvest was very fast and intensive, which meant that the farmers in Östergötland and on Gotland had time to cover larger areas of winter rape and autumn cereals than is usually the case.

Favorable autumn and winter

The crops coped well with the cold, but there were areas that were damaged by the cold.

- The protective snow cover, however, also meant that snow mold affected certain Gotland fields, where farmers were forced to sow in the spring, says Tobias Wejde, acting regional manager region East at Lantmännen.

This year, Gotland also had major problems with aphids.

- In some fields, we will probably see crop losses of up to 50 percent, says Tobias Wejde.

Heat and dry in June

- As it looks right now, we believe that the autumn-sown crops in Östergötland will yield around normal levels, while the spring crops appear to vary.

The crops on Gotland will yield below normal levels.

But Gotland's autumn-sown durum wheat is the crop that has done the season best, says Tobias Wejde.

As for the dikes in both Östergötland and Gotland, the first harvest has been salvaged with good volume and good quality.
