"The candidate countries [for accession to the EU] North Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania, as well as the states of the European free trade area - Iceland and Norway - have joined the European Council decision of June 24, 2021 on the introduction of targeted economic sanctions against Belarus", - quoted by TASS statement.

Borrell added that the EU welcomed the decision.

Earlier, Borrell said that the EU could impose new sanctions against the Belarusian side due to the increased migration flow from Belarus to Lithuania and Poland.

In June, the EU imposed sectoral economic sanctions against Belarus.
