A number of ambassadors of European countries boycotted the reception that took place at the US embassy in occupied Jerusalem, on the occasion of the United States' Independence Day, and among those who were absent were the ambassadors of France and Germany.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that the reason for the boycott is the European countries' failure to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, considering that part of the embassy building is built on occupied land.

The newspaper quoted - from an informed source - that half of the European ambassadors received an invitation to attend the ceremony, and that those who attended were the Romanian ambassador, the British deputy ambassador, and representatives from Kosovo and Austria.
