At the beginning of July, more than 100 people were detained in the Malmö police area, according to the police.

The majority of them are suspected of serious crimes such as shootings, explosions and extortion.

A dozen of the arrests were a result of the police's project "Stop firing".

But despite that, the shootings continue.

On the third of July, a shooting took place at Lindängen, and since then alarms have been sounded about four other shootings - the most recent at Nydala late on Sunday evening.

According to the police, the events are linked to ongoing conflicts between criminal gangs, which are known to the police since before.

- The situation has intensified recently, but the gang conflicts have been going on for some time, says Erik Åberg who is deputy local police area manager for Malmö south.

Called for reinforcement

In addition to the local forces, the Malmö police have now asked for regional reinforcement - to stop the shootings.

- Among other things, it is about becoming more visible in the areas, and to start prosecuting these people, says Erik Åberg.

"Feels a little creepy"

After the shooting in a stairwell in Nydala during the night towards Monday, a resident of SVT expressed talk with discomfort, but not surprise.

- It feels a little weird, but I do not think it is worse here than in other places, says Lena Olofsson who lives close to where a shooting took place.
