Fans managed to break into Wembley without a ticket to attend the Euro final between Italy and England on Sunday evening, according to police and the London stadium manager company inside which a scene of violence was filmed.

"A small number of people" managed to enter the compound without a ticket, according to London police and a stadium spokesperson.

"Anyone inside the stadium without a ticket will be immediately ejected," added a stadium spokesperson.

According to the UK news agency PA, members of the stadium security were seen "tackling people to the ground".

According to a witness cited by PA, 300 people tried to force their way through during the first half, and ticket checks were carried out during half-time.

In a video posted to social media, conspicuously taken in the halls of the stadium, a group of men can be seen punching and kicking, including when people are on the ground, as stadium officers attempt to intervene.

Earlier today, images posted on social media showed dozens of ticketless supporters knocking down barriers in the face of overwhelmed security guards.

London police made 45 arrests on the sidelines of the Euro final, she announced late in the evening on Twitter, stressing that many police remained on the ground, "to help fans leaving Wembley or central London ".

The atmosphere around the stadium was tense before the Euro final between Italy and England, with some incidents and throwing projectiles.

Most of the Italian supporters who have a ticket to watch the final quickly made their way to the stadium and their seats.

The pedestrian access roads to the stadium were littered with rubbish and broken bottles.

On Twitter, London police asked supporters not to come to Wembley if they didn't have tickets because "the area is extremely busy".

"We have agents on site to deal with the crowds and ensure the safety of people," she said.

An AFP journalist also noted that trains full of supporters were leaving Wembley for central London, presumably in order to follow the match in front of television screens.
