The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tokyo, Japan, 10 days before the opening of the Olympic Games, continues.



Tokyo announced today (11th) that the number of newly confirmed COVID-19 infections was 614, 96 more than on the same day last week.



As a result, the number of new confirmed cases in Tokyo increased for 22 days in a row compared to the same day of the week in the previous week.



In order to contain the spread of the infection, the Japanese government will enforce a fourth state of emergency in Tokyo from tomorrow (12th) to the 22nd of next month, including the entire period of the Tokyo Olympics (7.23~8.8), and three prefectures in the metropolitan area including Chiba Prefecture. It was decided to extend and apply key measures such as epidemic prevention that are equivalent to the situation.



As a result, all Olympic games, including the opening and closing ceremonies held in these regions, were decided to be held without spectators.



During the state of emergency, Tokyo has requested the closure of restaurants serving alcoholic beverages and other general restaurants to be open until 8pm.



Meanwhile, as of 5 p.m., the total number of new confirmed cases in Japan today was 1,431.
