A cartridge for the old Nintendo NES consoles of the legendary video game "The Legend of Zelda" was auctioned for a "record" sum of $ 870,000 on Friday, auction house Heritage Auctions announced in a statement.

"This is the centerpiece" of this sale which takes place partly online until Sunday and which includes "443 lots," Eric Bradley, a spokesperson for the Dallas-based company, told AFP.

Dated 1987, the coin was still sealed in its original packaging.

For the auction house, this is a "world record for a video game", ahead of the sale, last April, still at Heritage Auctions, of a cartridge of the Super Mario Bros video game for Nintendo NES dating back to of 1986 ($ 660,000).

Heritage has not communicated the identity of the buyer (s).
