Argentina: farmers mobilize against taxes on meat exports

Several thousand Argentines demonstrated against the government of Peronist President Alberto Fernández, at the call of rural producers.

At the origin of the mobilization, restrictions on meat exports, which angered an agricultural sector, the country's main source of foreign exchange, which considers itself overtaxed and not listened to by the authorities.

On this National Day, the Argentine anthem resonates in Tucumán, where independence, proclaimed in 1816, is commemorated by President Alberto Fernández.

But also in San Nicolás, in the province of Buenos Aires, where people of all origins have answered the call of the producers.

Iván Castellaro, organizer of the event, is pleased with the number of people gathered: “

 It started two weeks ago, between three friends, because until then there had been little reaction to government decisions, in particular concerning the sector. agricultural.

Then, many collectives joined the demo.

A mobilization as a warning sign

Opposition leaders participated in the demonstration in their personal capacity, such as Ricardo Etchevehere.

The former Minister of Agriculture attacks government policy head-on: “ 

A government which slows down production, prohibits exports and does not respect private property, is leading this country to bankruptcy.

This event is therefore a great act of good citizenship, for the Republic and for freedom, which must get the government to back down! 

"

In 2008, Cristina Kirchner, then president, had to give up increasing a tax on soybean exports, following the mobilization of producers.

Four months before the mid-term elections, this July 9 is a warning for Alberto Fernández.
