When did you ever really feel German?

    I've always been German, and I still feel proud to be German today.

    And still like to travel abroad, like to surround myself with French, Spanish and Italians.

    I can find a home anywhere.

    But I'm German and I like to let you through.

    Do you have a favorite dialect?

    Yes, the Berlin way.

    In my time at Hertha, I even assumed that a bit back then.

    In general, I liked Berlin very much before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

    Back then I wanted to stay there, today I am happy to be in Munich.

    This has become my home.

    I am rarely in the region where I was born, East Frisia, although I like the people there very much, they are wonderful, sincere people, with a certain distance and yet warmth.

    Meeting them has helped me a lot in my life.

    In my childhood I could also speak Low German, but I've forgotten that.

    Which word in the national anthem is most important to you?

    Every word is important, there is not a single superfluous one.

    So I hold it all up

    Whether it is brotherhood or unity, freedom or justice.

    No, I wouldn't pick one out.

    Everything is important.

    Where is Germany most beautiful?

    Oh, that changes, that depends on the mood.

    I like to be at the sea, when the weather is nice there is nothing better than a trip to the islands of the North Sea.

    Past the seals and the sandbanks, and the thunderstorm animals when the heat shimmers.

    But I also like to be in Garmisch or in the Allgäu.

    Or in the Chiemgau.

    These are fantastically beautiful areas.

    What is the best German invention?

    The letterpress.

    Which German food do you like the most?

    At Bayern we always went with a top chef, namely Alfons Schuhbeck, and Alfons sometimes asked me what I would most like to eat.

    And do you know what I always said then, spontaneously, without thinking?

    Roulades with red cabbage, here they say red cabbage, with dumplings or fried potatoes.

    This is my absolute favorite food.

    And is there a German dish where you say: That won't be on my table?

    So I've become very careful about fish. If you look at how nanoparticles have increased in the Atlantic and how animals have them in their flesh, how even fish in the Baltic Sea carry fertilizers, I have to say: I don't want to eat that too. If fish, then I only eat freshwater fish. And I've also become more cautious about meat. The animal transports roll past us at home. This is heartbreaking. Because if you know that they are being prepared so that they can withstand these long journeys to the butcher's shop or to a slaughterhouse so that they do not get a heart attack, an antibiotic, a kind of anti-stress agent, then you will lose your appetite. I have become very careful with German meat. I used to be a passionate meat eaterbut now I eat a lot less of it.
